Our earliest broadsides did not come from “live” collaborations but were, instead, the result of an artist working with a published poem. Although it was not always easy to find a poem that inspired the artist, some beautiful broadsides, such as this one, resulted from these one-sided collaborations. Visual artist Judy Just completed her painting based on the poem by Mimi White in July 2020.
Leslie’s (Art Curator) statement: Judy’s abstract paintings are engaging and popular and she is experienced in articulating the creative process. We had not yet understood the importance of live collaborations, and Judy was quarantined due to the Covid-19 situation. We learned that it is much more engaging to work with the artist and poet as they find common ground because Judy struggled to identify a poem that inspired her and we lost sight of how to assist. Nevertheless, the resulting broadside is amongst the most highly appreciated by the community, an attest to the skills Judy has as an artist.
Judy’s statement: I like to use various stimuli to give me ideas for color and movement in creating my art. It is always about opening the heart.
