On the Beach
This project features artist Tim Jaeger and playwright Ann Morrison, both from Sarasota.
Tim’s Statement: In working with and responding to Ann’s work, Tim was compelled to create a simple, organic drawing that expressed pureness. With a line drawing, he achieved a clean and quiet result. Tim expressed delight in having the opportunity to work with Ann and is honored to be part of the Art in Common Places community. As a director and curator for the galleries at the Ringling College and as a professor and professional artist, Tim shared how much he appreciates the positive opportunities created through curating collaborations between poets and artists.
Ann’s Statement: “I was first inspired by Tim’s artwork while looking through his portfolio and specifically his series of people on the beach. I remembered a time on Lido Beach in Sarasota with my mother and my son who was about 6 years old. I loved watching the two interact with nature on the beach and the comments they both had around a shell my son found. My mother, his grandmother, instilled a love of faery or “fey” as my mother would poetically say. I was moved to share that time. Tim responded immediately to the poem and we both knew this is where we wanted to live. We spoke of simplicity and how fun it would be to go back to that in our work together.”
