Dragon

Sarasota residents poet Cedric Hameed and visual artist Grace Howl collaborated on this project in the Fall of 2020.

Cedric’s statement: I wanted to create a piece that journeys through the process of believing. I see believing as a growing intuition that expands gaining strength and roots through testy and unprecedented times. We are indeed being tested and reminded of why believing is essential. In writing this piece, my hopes are to send it into the universe as a testament or the healing, inspiring power of art and collaboration!

Grace’s statement: I wanted to create a feeling of lightness, hope, love, and inspiration using soothing and uplifting colors. Yet I needed to acknowledge there are negative influences in life like a dragon represented by darker mood colors. I believe if we look deep inside ‘ourselves’ we can find the strength we need to face reality. We must believe there is good in the world. We have the power within us to heal and it is okay to ask for help. To trust in something bigger than us; look to the universe and say, ‘I believe’!
